Why Is The Casino Dice Game Called “craps”?
Officially, the game was originally called “crabs” by the people who invented it (I don’t remember why it was called crabs). When the game was brought to the U.S. in the south, the pronunciation was “craps” and the name stuck.
Personally, I prefer the other version of the tale. Before gambling was completely legal, there used to be an employee in illegal gambling halls who’s sole responsability was to eat the dice in case of a police raid. That’s why they call it “craps”.

Because the pips on the dice reminded the early LOUISIANANS of the markings on a certain type of crab they called the game CRABBES which evolved into CRAPS.
Not because you got real crabby when you lost LOL

+ The object of the game is to repeat your first roll of two dice before you get a loosing combination. 7 and 11 are losers after the first roll. The betting is that you will or will not be able to do that, or you can bet on someone else that is rolling the dice being able to do it.
Game moves fast and money comes and goes fast.
