Objective of the Game:

Craps is a dice game and is said to date back to the Romans but has been made famous in the Casinos of Las Vegas. The Craps table is usually the most exciting table in the house with players taking an active role in the game and adding to the atmosphere by cheering and commenting on the game.

“Snake Eyes!” Craps is a game of chance and the objective is to predict the outcome of the roll of the dice. The game can seem fairly complex but offers up a captivating experience once you have learnt the ropes.

The game uses two identical dice and is based on how often seven as the total of the two dice comes up and how the other numbers compare with it.

How to Play

The game can look complicated but it is possible to learn just a few of the betting options to begin playing.

The opposing faces of each die always total seven (the one is always opposite the six, the two opposite the five and so on).

You have six numbers on each die and so a pair of dice will give you 36 different combinations. Craps is based on how often these different combinations appear. See below all the different combinations:

The most common two die total is 7 with six different combinations.

Some of the terminology used in Craps:

Naturals - The total of the two dice adds up to 7 or 11
Craps - The total of the two dice adds up to 2, 3, or 12
Point - The total of the two dice adds up to 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10
Snake Eyes - 1’s rolled on both dice
The Shooter - you, the player
Come out roll - The first roll of the dice

To get started we can look at the most popular (and profitable) bet on the Craps table: the pass line wager.

You toss the dice with three possible outcomes - a Natural, a Point or a Craps (see above).
If you roll a Natural (7 or 11) before the Point is established, a pass line bet is won.
If you roll a Craps (2,3 or 12), the pass line bet is lost.
If you roll a Point (4,5,6,8,9 or 10) you must roll that number again, before another seven is rolled to win.

I was at my local casino on Saturday. After going to a Red Wings game. While there I was playing some craps. At the one table I was at just as it was my turn to throw. I had engaged in a “frendly” confrontation between another player at the table over how that Wings game ended. Later on in my turn throwing the guy in the suit sitting down in the middle ddecided to make a remark about the confrontation or the wings game (I dont really remember what was said) but he said it right through my release. I thought it was disrespectful and voiced my displeasure given I 7′ed out on the roll. I called it a night after that but he was trying to get me to play a suckers bet (pushing “all in” on the field bet) when I announced I was leaving. The 2x, 3x, 5x, 10x and in some places 100x that you speak of is the maximum amount of odds that you can bet on a Pass Line bet. An odds bet is placed behind your original Pass Line bet. It’s not an advertised bet (no markings to indicate it is a bet that you can make) and coincidentally it’s the best bet as far as house advantage is concerned.
Here are some examples….
You place $5 on the Pass Line…..
The most you can put behind your Pass Line bet (1.41% house advantage) for
2x - $10 (.57% house advantage)
5x - $25 (.33% house advantage)
10x - $50 (.18% house advantage)
100x - $500 (.02% house advantage)
The house advantage listed is provided you take the full odds amount behind the line.
How much you win is directly proportional to what the point is when you are betting the Pass Line.
If the point is 6 or 8, the odds are 6 to 5 behind the line, meaning you will win $6 for each $5 wagered behind the line.
If the point is 5 or 9, the odds are 3 to 2 behind the line, meaning you will win $3 for each $2 wagered behind the line.
If the point is 4 or 10, the odds are 2 to 1 behind the line, meaning you will win $2 for each $1 wagered behind the line.
You can remove, decrease or increase (as long as it’s under the maximum) your odds bet at any time during the roll BUT you cannot remove or decrease your Pass Line bet. You can increase it though.
Currently the only casino in Las Vegas offering 100x odds behind the line is Casino Royale on the Strip. Less than a dozen in Vegas offer 10x odds.

In other words, betting the table minimum, say $5, and doubling up (roughly) each time you lose (i.e. $5, $10, $25, $50, $100, $200, $400, $800, $1600, $3200) until a field number shows. Once a field number shows, you switch back to betting the table minimum ($5).
I realize that this method of play requires a rather large bank roll in order to stay alive during the inevitable down times, but if you can float the cash (and have a strong stomach) isn’t there a good chance you will come out ahead assuming that a 5, 6, 7 or 8 isn’t rolled ten consecutive times?

I have not played at San Manuel so I don’t know exactly how THEY do it. At Pechanga, another Tribal casino in California, 12 decks of cards are used. 6 of one color, 6 of another. All cards with a value of 7 or higher are removed creating 2 sets of cards with values 1-6 to correspond with the numbers on dice. Then the cards are dealt, one of each color, to determine what the roll is. Example: if an Ace and 6 come out the roll is seven. The rest of it, bets and payoffs, is just the same.
Pala Casino has a slightly different variation, but it is also played with cards. Bottom line: the laws in California say that the outcome of any table games wager must be determined by cards, so the casinos have found ways to use cards for craps and roulette.

Anyone who tells you that controlling the dice can’t be done is either an idiot or thinks it’s impossible just because they can’t do it. The best dice controllers have mountains of data proving that they get a statistical edge, and most have the bank accounts to back it up. I know a guy who clears almost $500k a year playing craps and he doesn’t even live here.
The fact is, it doesn’t even matter if it hits the back wall. With a proper throw, if the dice hit the back wall and make one rotation in ANY direction, a player can create a statistical edge.
And it’s certainly not cheating. As long as you throw the dice in the air and hit the back wall, it’s a legal throw.
